Imine-modified polyolefin offers adhesion solution for wide array of materials

A new tie layer resin from Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. has the potential to deliver to engineers and designers more options for material combinations in finished products. It can also be used as a coupling agent in carbon fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP).

Imine-modified polyolefin functions as a tie layer in multilayer fuel tubes.

The imine-modified polyolefin, Admer IP, is being proposed as a solution in multi-layer fuel tube structures to tie together resins such as modified fluoropolymer and EVOH, and modified fluoropolymer and PP. It is also touted as an option for bonding together polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and PP in heat-resistant pipes. Admer IP also works well with polyesters and polyketones.

Admer IP also functions as a coupling agent between carbon fiber and PP matrix resin, where it has been shown to substantially improve creep and tensile fatigue properties. The new product is an extension of the company’s Admer series of functionalized (maleic anhydride-grafted) polyolefins widely used in multi-layer packaging applications.
