Industrial plastic packaging processor Mauser has expanded the company's reconditioning plant in Brazil. In answer to a question from PlasticsToday, Mauser (Bruehl, Germany) confirmed that recycling capacity at the new facility would be about 200 tonnes/month. At its new recycling facility, Mauser subsidiary National Container Group (NCG) will be able to recycle all types of industrial packaging made of high-density polyethylene - from 0.5 liter bottles up to 1000-liter Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) - and transforms it in pelletized recycled resin.

This recyclate will then be reused at Mauser's Brazilian production sites to produce jerry cans, IBC accessories, plastic drums and inner layers for plastic drums. The plant opening is expected for the early fourth quarter of 2011 but trial runs already have begun. Recycling machinery already in the country was consolidated at the new facility and also upgraded.

"By recycling several types of HDPE packaging solutions, our new Tankpool REPEL unit will allow us to expand our Total Recollect strategy to all of our customers," says Ricardo Goldenberg, director at NCG Tankpool. "Moreover, this project is aligned with the National Policy on Solid Waste (PNRS) which includes the improvement of recycle activities and a proper waste disposal in Brazil. We are delighted to open this new plant that enables our customers to act in a sustainable way."

Globally, the Mauser Group employs about 4000 employees and has consolidated revenue of some €1 billion.
