The CDMO has acquired Italy’s Phoenix, specialized in the design, development, manufacturing, assembly, and packaging of disposable medical devices.

Arterex, a contract development and manufacturing organization serving global medical device OEMS, announced that it has completed the acquisition of Phoenix S.r.l., a developer and manufacturer of medical devices based in Italy.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Arterex said that Phoenix brings to its portfolio of companies expertise in the design, development, and manufacture of disposable medical devices, along with assembly and packaging services in ISO Class 8 cleanrooms.
A global contract manufacturing portfolio
Arterex was formed in 2022 with the financial support of European investment group Investindustrial, initially bringing together four complementary US and EU companies — Formula Plastics, Kabo, Luc & Bel, and Modenplast — with the goal of building a comprehensive global contract manufacturing portfolio for medical device OEMs. In 2023, it acquired NextPhase, a US-based injection molding company, followed by the acquisition of Micromold in January of last year.
Located near Modena, Phoenix develops, assembles, and packages medical devices in just over 37,000 square feet of manufacturing space and four ISO Class 8 cleanrooms. The company is certified to ISO 13485:2016 and operates in compliance with the European Union’s Medical Device Regulation.
Italy's medtech hub
Modena and nearby Mirandola in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region have long been one of Europe’s major medtech hubs. (Among the larger population, Modena and environs are well-known for the production of authentic balsamic vinegar and automotive excellence, as Ferrari and Maserati are based there.) Plastic components for disposable medical devices — extruded as well as molded parts — are a specialty. Also based in Emilia-Romagna, Modenplast is one of the foundational companies in the Arterex portfolio, with more than 50 years of experience in the production of medical-grade PVC compounds. It is specialized in extruding PVC and DEHP-free PVC tubing.
“The acquisition of Phoenix is a strategic step for Arterex, allowing us to expand our medical device development and finished device assembly and packaging capabilities to Europe,” said Arterex CEO Jeffery Goble. “With a deep commitment to innovation, quality and customer support, Phoenix will strengthen our position as a leading, global provider of specialized and multi-capability manufacturing solutions.”
Arterex provides customers in North America and Europe with a slate of comprehensive services, including design, development, engineering, compounding, extrusion, injection molding, and tooling and mold build, as well as advanced assembly and packaging capabilities through nine manufacturing facilities across three continents.
Arterex comes to MD&M West
Arterex will be exhibiting at MD&M West, North America's largest annual manufacturing trade show covering the medtech, plastics, automation, and design and manufacturing sectors, in Anaheim, CA, on Feb. 4 to 6. Visit the company in booth 4311.
