The new year is off to a roaring start for Sumitomo (SHI) Demag in the medical molding space. Earlier this week, we reported on Westminster Tool taking delivery of a 354-ton Sumitomo machine specifically for some upcoming medical molding projects. Now, contract manufacturer Beacon MedTech Solutions announces that it has struck a new partnership agreement with Sumitomo to support increased production at its facility in Leominster, MA.

Presses for medical molding projects

The SE-EV-A series presses at Beacon MedTech Solutions' Leominster, MA, facility will help it to meet customer demand for single-use devices and components.

Beacon MedTech, formerly Built Rite Reliance and LSR Engineering, said that it initially will install two SE-EV-A series injection molding machines at its 110,000-square-foot facility. It will take delivery of additional presses in the first half of 2022. Beacon explained that the investment will enable it to further scale medical molding operations to support increased customer demand for single-use technology applications in the bio-pharma and life sciences markets.

The presses are equipped with automation systems, including standard robots, guarding, and conveyors, sourced from Massachusetts-based suppliers. These companies complement Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s sophisticated injection molding technologies, said Beacon MedTech, and they leverage relationships that Senior Tooling and Program Manager Robert Gove has across the regional medical supply chain.

“Sumitomo (SHI) Demag worked directly with our technical and engineering departments to optimize the presses to meet demanding, complex medical product specifications,” said Michael McGee, President of Beacon MedTech Solutions. “This partnership will allow our team to maximize productivity while maintaining the commitment to operational efficiency that allows us to deliver the speed and responsiveness our customers expect.”

Located in Lancaster, MA, Beacon MedTech Solutions is specialized in single-use technologies, liquid silicone rubber components, and Class II medical devices for customers in the medical, bio-pharma, and life sciences markets, including Tier One contract manufacturers and medical device OEMs.
