The MedAccred certification program has a new member: Central Plastics, a certified minority- and woman-owned injection molding company serving medical device OEMs. The certification confirms the Tracy, CA–based firm’s “dedication to achieving the highest standards of quality and ensuring patient safety within the medical device industry,” said Central Plastics in the announcement.
Administered by the Performance Review Institute (PRI), MedAccred is a globally recognized certification program designed to ensure the quality of critical manufacturing processes throughout the medical device supply chain. With this accreditation, Central Plastics joins a select group of manufacturers committed to meeting stringent industry benchmarks and regulatory requirements, including FDA and ISO 13485:2016 standards.
Central Plastics joins such plastics processors as BMP Medical, Sunlite Plastics, PTA Plastics, and Jabil in having successfully completed the rigorous MedAccred audit.
Helping to improve patient outcomes
“This certification demonstrates our commitment to delivering the best in medical manufacturing,” said Hiren Patel, president of Central Plastics. “As an ISO 13485–certified medical molder, we are dedicated to exceeding expectations by providing reliable, high-quality medical components that support better patient outcomes.”
Central Plastics is equipped with a Class 8 cleanroom and in-house tooling department. It routinely molds single-use devices, catheter components, diagnostic consumables, labware, and equipment housings. In-house expertise includes overmolding, insert molding, and precision micromolding processes.
Program managed by leading global medical device OEMs
The MedAccred program is an industry-managed approach to ensuring critical manufacturing process quality through the medical device supply chain, managed by some of the most important medical device companies in the world, including BD, Boston Scientific, Baxter, Edwards Lifesciences, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Philips, Roche Diagnostics, and Stryker.
The program verifies supplier compliance with industry standards as well as customer specifications, explained Justin McCabe and David Rosa in a 2023 PlasticsToday article. “Unlike other accreditations, the MedAccred process takes a deep dive into manufacturing processes as well as the entire end-to-end manufacturing supply chain. The program helps manufacturers improve quality issues in plastics processing, including injection molding, mechanical assembly, and extrusion, and confirms the information flow to sub-tiers, enhancing purchasing controls and minimizing the risk of product recalls,” reported McCabe and Rosa.
