Hydromer Inc. announced today it will be moving its operations to the Charlotte, NC, region, having sold its current facilities in Branchburg, NJ, which the company built in 1981. The 39-year-old company is specialized in the development of high-performance polymers and surface coatings that are lubricious, condensation controlling and hydrophilic. Its technologies have been successfully adopted for use in advanced medical devices, aerospace components and personal care products, among other applications.
The new headquarters, which the company expects to occupy this summer, will allow Hydromer to augment its capabilities so it can provide more mission-critical technologies and services to its medical, industrial and green chemistry customers and markets, the company said in a press release.
The biomaterial coatings market for medical devices is projected to exceed $15 billion by 2021, driven by a flurry of new material science and substrates that will need surface treatment, according to the company.
“Hydromer’s new headquarters and manufacturing facility will be specialized, more flexible and adaptive in design to capture operational efficiencies and enable a quicker customer response time,” said Martin C. von Dyck, Executive Vice President of Operations, in a prepared statement. “It will feature modular production elements, empowering more agile and leaner productivity, allowing our company to adapt and change much faster to meet its diverse customer requirements.”
Hydromer reportedly chose the Charlotte region for its new headquarters because of its stature as an international business hub, competitive business climate and North Carolina's consistent ranking in the upper echelon of business-friendly states. Moreover, the plastics manufacturing industry is 85% more concentrated in the Charlotte region than the national average, with over 10,000 people working in the sector, according to the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance. Hydromer continues to build relationships with companies in the plastics industry, as many of its products and research and development initiatives are a natural fit for partnership initiatives, said the press release.
Certified to ISO 9001:2015, Hydromer describes itself as a technology-focused company engaged in the business of inventing, developing, patenting, licensing, manufacturing and selling hydrophilic polymer–based products for a range of commercial markets. It provides specialized research and development and medical coating services to industry through a FDA-registered and ISO 13485:2016–certified subsidiary.
