Compounder touts thermoplastics portfolio for surgical robot manufacturers

Compounder RTP Co. (Winona, MA) announced that it has developed a selection of thermoplastics for surgical robotic systems that provide a range of desirable properties.

Surgical robotics is a booming sector. It is forecast to grow globally at a compound annual rate of almost 25% through 2025, reaching a market value of $24 billion, according to business report from Global Market Insights.

“Surgical robots are becoming more prevalent because they are minimally invasive and precisely accurate, which helps the patient recover more quickly,” said Bob Williams, Global Healthcare Manager at RTP, in a prepared statement. “RTP Co. engineers have been assisting the medical industry with material solutions for over 35 years. We are passionate about helping robotic designers find the right materials for surgical robotic systems and components.”

RTP has developed thermoplastics with properties that are especially well suited to surgical robots, such as strength; flame retardance; wear, chemical and impact resistance; color; and sterilizability. If required, biocompatibility support can be provided for many of these compounds, added RTP. In addition to robotic systems and housings, the materials are suited for monitor components such as housings, bezels, bases and tool holders; reusable and single-use devices; and medical staplers.

The compounds are available globally in a variety of resin and additive combinations to fit precise requirements and meet the demands of surgical use.
