Contract medical molder Minnesota Rubber and Plastics doubles cleanroom capacity

Minnesota Rubber and Plastics (Minneapolis) has doubled cleanroom manufacturing capacity at its Litchfield, MN, facilities in response to rapid growth of the company’s medical and pharmaceutical business.

A supplier of high-performance elastomer and thermoplastics molding services to the medical device industry, Minnesota Rubber and Plastics added a new Class 8 cleanroom at its 70,000-square-foot Litchfield manufacturing facility, the company announced in a press release today.

The highly automated operations include horizontal injection and vertical compression/transfer presses for processing elastomers and liquid silicone rubber. Medical processing capabilities at the plant include contaminant-free white room and cleanroom molding, finishing and assembly of complex medical device components and assemblies.

Litchfield’s expanded cleanroom facilities have been augmented with dozens of support systems, equipment and machines integrated into the enhanced manufacturing operations including the addition of new cleaning and packaging equipment.

The Midwest’s largest advanced manufacturing event is coming to Minneapolis in November. Six co-located events, including PLASTEC Minneapolis and Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) Minneapolis, will welcome more than 600 suppliers and thousands of attendees to the Minneapolis Convention Center on Nov. 8 and 9, 2017. Go to the event website for more information and to register to attend.

“The Litchfield expansion represents a continuation of Minnesota Rubber and Plastics’ commitment to the global medical and pharmaceutical industry,” said Lih Fang Chew, Global Vice President of Marketing-MedPharma. “During the last decade, the company has tripled the size of its medical manufacturing facilities in River Falls, WI, with new and expanded Class 7 and 8 cleanrooms. Also included are greatly expanded compound and material testing facilities in Mason City, IA.”

Minnesota Rubber and Plastics attributes its success to a long-term commitment to science-based processes and procedures. When combined with leading edge technologies, this commitment has fostered continued advances in material sciences, new product development launches and production standards, according to the company. It has developed an integrated approach to continuous improvement of systems and procedures in support of customers’ product performance goals.
