Freudenberg Group (Weinheim, Germany) has announced the formation of Freudenberg Medical (Carpinteria, CA), an umbrella brand for Helix Medical and MedVenture Technology.

Helix Medical, which is specialized in silicone and thermoplastic molding and extrusion and various medical manufacturing services on a contract basis, acquired MedVenture in October 2012. MedVenture develops and manufactures minimally invasive systems. Helix was acquired by Freudenberg in 2006.

FreudenbergFreudenberg Medical also holds a 50% share of two joint venture companies: VistaMed, a leading manufacturer of catheters and catheter components, and Cambus Medical, a manufacturer of metal hypotubes for catheter systems.

The 166-year-old Freudenberg Group, which is present in more than 30 markets on a global basis, has made significant inroads into medical design and manufacturing over the past decade. As a next step, the rebranding is intended to emphasize the business group's role as a global development and innovation partner to the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.

In addition to supplying specialty components and minimally invasive products for medical device OEMs and silicone tubing and related products to the pharmaceutical industry, Freudenberg Medical also develops and markets proprietary ear, nose and throat applications under the InHealth Technologies brand.

As part of the Freudenberg Group and with more than 40,000 associates around the globe, Freudenberg Medical has access to a unique network of research and development facilities and can support customers from material and design optimization to mass production of complete medical devices, says the company.

Freudenberg Medical currently operates 10 production sites in the United States, Costa Rica, Germany, Ireland and China. All of the facilities are equipped with cleanrooms and are FDA registered.
