Gerresheimer (Düsseldorf, Germany), a global supplier of plastic and glass packaging and products to healthcare OEMs, expanded its business model with the acquisition of Sensile Medical AG in July 2018. Sensile’s drug-delivery products and platforms elevate Gerresheimer into the OEM space; the two companies will exhibit together for the first time at pharma industry event CPhi in Madrid on Oct. 9 to 11.
Sensile’s core technology is a micro rotary piston pump that delivers precise dosages of drugs yet is inexpensive to manufacture because it comprises only two plastic parts. It is a key component of a range of pump platforms and is compatible with a variety of drugs.
“Pooling Gerresheimer’s and Sensile Medical’s expertise is an ideal move for any of our customers looking for innovation,” said Sandra de Haan, Chief Business Officer at Sensile. The company’s expertise in micro-pump technology and connected drug-delivery devices accelerates product development for pharma companies in the early stages of drug and therapy projects. As a result of the acquisition, Sensile Medical will become Gerresheimer’s Development Division, covering the field of innovative devices for the entire group. It is already working successfully on projects with customers to develop devices for diabetics and patients with heart disease, said Gerresheimer in a press release.
Gerresheimer operates facilities in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Its product portfolio includes pharmaceutical packaging, insulin pens, inhalers, micro pumps, prefillable syringes, injection vials, ampoules, bottles and containers for liquid and solid medicines with closure and safety systems.
