Gilero Expands Medtech Injection Molding in North Carolina
The facility in Greensboro will be dedicated to producing critical components for medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging.

Following its acquisition of contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) Gilero LLC in September, Germany’s Sanner Group announced yesterday that it will expand Gilero’s injection molding capabilities for the healthcare sector with a new 60,500-square-foot facility in Greensboro, NC. Gilero has its headquarters in Durham, NC.
Sanner said the new facility will be dedicated to producing critical components for medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging, as well as desiccant solutions to protect moisture-sensitive drugs and devices. A global market leader in desiccant closures and effervescent tablet packaging, Sanner has embarked on a strategy of becoming a global CDMO for the medtech sector. The acquisition of Gilero earlier this year was a key milestone in achieving this goal.
Class 7 and 8 cleanrooms on site
The Greensboro plant will comprise ISO Class 7 and 8 cleanrooms as well as injection molding and desiccant filling machines, quality control labs, and humidity-controlled production areas. Production is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
“The launch of our Greensboro facility marks an exciting milestone for Gilero as we continue to expand our capabilities to support our clients’ evolving needs,” said Ted Mosler, President of Sanner US. “With this facility, we will be able to provide even greater value to our clients through faster production timelines, enhanced quality control, and increased flexibility.”
In the announcement, Sanner said it will now be able to serve desiccant packaging customers in the North American pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries directly from Greensboro, increasing its service commitment and strengthening its market position.
Design, development, and contract manufacturing services
The Greensboro facility complements Gilero’s existing design centers and manufacturing facilities across North America that provide end-to-end design, development, and contract manufacturing services for the medical device and drug-delivery/combination product markets. The company also has a manufacturing footprint in Mexico and Ireland.
Sanner operates manufacturing plants across Germany, France, Hungary, China, and the United States. Founded in 1894 as a cork maker, the company shifted into plastics processing in the 1950s and reached a key milestone in the late 1960s with its invention of the desiccant closure to protect pharmaceutical products from the effects of moisture. Sanner has its headquarters in Bensheim, Germany.
