Graham Partners, a private investment firm based in Newtown Square, PA, targeting advanced manufacturing companies, announced that its portfolio company Medbio LLC (Grand Rapids, MI) has acquired AIM Plastics Inc. (Clinton Township, MI). The deal was made public on Feb. 19.
Medbio provides cleanroom injection molding of plastic components for medical, life science and biotechnology devices on a contract basis. The company manufactures single-use, disposable products for high-growth end markets and is differentiated by its ability to serve as a one-stop shop for outsourced manufacturing, said the press release.
AIM is a founder-owned medical device component manufacturer offering full-service injection molding and in-house tooling capabilities for high-growth therapeutic areas within the healthcare sector. AIM specializes in the rapid turnaround of prototype-to-production molds and complex injection molding that requires niche medical expertise. AIM also has vertical injection molding and two-shot molding capabilities.
The founders of AIM were attracted to Graham Partners’ operating resources in the healthcare space, as well as the cultural fit and potential commercial and operational synergies between AIM and Medbio. AIM adds scale along with customer and end market diversification to the Medbio platform, said the press release. It also brings additional manufacturing capacity needed to support the growth of the combined businesses.
The successful acquisition of AIM represents a major step forward in Graham’s strategy to build a premier medical device manufacturing business, according to the company.
Joe Heinmiller, Managing Principal of Graham Partners, stated, “AIM is a truly transformative add-on acquisition for Medbio. We are looking forward to combining these two industry-leading businesses into a larger, more diversified medical device outsourced manufacturer with additional capabilities.”
