Japan’s Nipro Medical Corp. has announced that it will build its first North American manufacturing facility in Greenville, NC. The almost $400 million investment over the next five years is expected to generate just over 232 new jobs.

Founded in 1954 in Osaka, Nipro Medical operates 27 manufacturing plants across the world and employs more than 29,000 people. Its core products are renal, vascular, and surgical devices. The Tier 1 medical device manufacturer provides extrusion, molding, tooling design and production, automated assembly, and packaging services, and is registered with US FDA.

The North Carolina facility will produce state-of-the-art medical devices that support patients with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and other renal health issues, said Nipro. More than 500,000 people in the United States require regular dialysis treatment and millions of individuals manage diabetes with insulin and specialized devices, noted the company. “We are here [in North Carolina] to make a difference by producing high-quality medical devices locally, ensuring that the products essential to those life-saving treatments are always within reach," the company said.

By establishing manufacturing in the United States, Nipro will significantly reduce global transportation needs, cutting down on carbon emissions. "Our new facility in Greenville is a major milestone in our sustainability journey, reflecting our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint," said Senior Managing Director of Global Business Tsuyoshi Yamazaki.

The new facility in Pitt County will host a range of positions from engineering and production to administrative and management roles. Nipro said that it values ownership, flexibility, and team spirit among its employees and invites people “who are willing to make a difference and contribute to Nipro's mission to join and grow with the company."

In welcoming Nipro to North Carolina, Gov. Roy Cooper highlighted the state's reputation as a center for advanced manufacturing. "This initiative not only reinforces our status as a prime location for advanced manufacturing but also demonstrates our state's capability in providing a skilled workforce and a superior quality of life,” said Cooper.
