Medbio adds Arburg molding machine for medical, biotech

Medbio (Grand Rapids, MI), a contract manufacturer specializing in injection molded components and assembly for the medical and biotech industry, recently purchased its fourth Arburg swivel clamp machine.  It is a 28-ton hydraulic molding machine that can be configured in a wide range of working positions. "These machines give us the flexibility to run a variety of molded parts, from over molding and insert molding with a vertical clamp position to automatic molding with a horizontal clamp position" said Ryan Heidenfeld, Medbio's process engineering manager.

Medbio adds Arburg molding machine for medical, biotech

Medbio (Grand Rapids, MI), a contract manufacturer specializing in injection molded components and assembly for the medical and biotech industry, recently purchased its fourth Arburg swivel clamp machine.  It is a 28-ton hydraulic molding machine that can be configured in a wide range of working positions. 

"These machines give us the flexibility to run a variety of molded parts, from over molding and insert molding with a vertical clamp position to automatic molding with a horizontal clamp position" said Ryan Heidenfeld, Medbio's process engineering manager. 

"Many of the components we produce are unique and complex. Medbio takes full advantage of Arburg's modularity and we have been able to achieve geometries that could not be produced using customary molding equipment."

Medbio is a steadily growing ISO 13485:2003-certified custom molder that specializes in precision injection molding, assembly, packaging, project management and design support.

The nine-year-old company last year added a micro molding machine. Clamping force of its Arburg presses range from 17 to 165 tons. Molding features include Kistler cavity-pressure sensors, the one-millimeter, flush-mount type. Medbio moved into a larger facility in 2011.

The new facility represents a 55% increase in space with additional acreage for expansion. Medbio now has 16 molding presses contained in a ISO Class 7 clean room and a micro-molding press contained in a modular-certified ISO Class 7 clean room.  The facility contains four certified modular class ISO Class seven clean rooms for assembly and packaging of finished goods.

An isolated clean room is used for molding implantable resins and components.
