Medical Design Excellence Awards 2014: And the gold goes to Convergent Dental

Dental Instruments, Equipment, and Supplies

Gold: The Solea CO2 dental laser system, manufactured by Convergent Dental Inc. (Natick, MA), is the first laser system of its kind cleared by FDA for hard and soft tissue ablation. Designed to replace drills and needles in numerous dental procedures, the system operates silently and is vibration free. Its 9.3-µm wavelength reportedly results in a cutting speed that is six times faster and more precise than erbium lasers. Because it is quiet and effective, the system could benefit patients with dentophobia, says the company.

Silver: Digit Power Dispenser, Dentsply International, LD Caulk Div.

Bronze: BluephaseStyle, Ivoclar Vivadent AG
