Medical Manufacturing Technologies (MMT), a supplier of an array of products and services to medical device OEMs through several brands, has acquired Confluent Medical Technologies’ equipment manufacturing group.

The Confluent group develops and manufactures balloon-forming equipment, as well as related testing and catheter production systems, and it will be rebranded Interface Catheter Solutions, a nod to its historic roots. Interface was acquired by Nitinol Devices & Components Inc. in 2015, at which time the combined company was renamed Confluent Medical Technologies.

MMT is a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management; its brands include Engineering by Design, Glebar, MPT Europe, and Syneo.

"The acquisition of the renowned Interface Catheter Solutions equipment line is a strategic investment that expands our ability to meet the growing needs of our customers," said Robbie Atkinson, CEO of MMT. "Globally recognized as the benchmark balloon catheter equipment platform, the Interface brand and its dedicated team further strengthen our end-to-end catheter equipment manufacturing portfolio."

Qualifying MMT as the “perfect steward” for the Interface brand, Confluent CEO Dean Schauer said that the deal will allow “Confluent to focus our energy on our materials science capabilities for production of nitinol components, textiles, balloons, balloon catheters, polymer components, and finished devices utilizing these capabilities."

MMT said it will pursue thoughtful integration of the Interface products within its equipment line and reinforce its position as a global leader in the industry. Interface will continue operations at its Laguna Niguel, CA, facility, MMT added.

"The cardiovascular and neurovascular medical device markets demand quality and excellence along every step of development. Lives depend on it," said Atkinson. "The Interface brand is recognized globally for its quality, precision, and repeatability. It is our honor to bring this well-respected brand into our growing portfolio."

MMT offers a range of technologies used to produce minimally invasive medical devices. In addition to medical equipment, the company provides customers with proof-of-concept, process development, and aftermarket support and services.
