Merit Medical, a manufacturer of disposable medical devices and a supplier of medical components to other OEMs, will undertake a significant expansion of its headquarters in South Jordan, UT, just outside of Salt Lake City. The company committed earlier this month to adding up to 1,010 jobs, $71 million in state revenue and an estimated $505 million in capital investment, according to the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED).
Merit Medical said that it plans to create as many as 1,010 jobs over the next 15 years. The total wages in aggregate are required to exceed 110% of the average county wage.
The company develops and manufactures products for use in cardiac, intervention, peripheral intervention, interventional oncology and spine, cardiovascular, and critical care and endoscopy procedures. Manufacturing and R&D facilities are located throughout the United States and in Ireland, the Netherlands and Mexico.
At its global headquarters near Salt Lake City, the company offers injection and insert molding and cleanroom assembly and production, among other services. Custom labelling and packaging is available, and PTFE and hydrophilic coatings are applied to medical device tubing and wires to customer specifications at the company’s “coating headquarters” in the Netherlands. Other tube and wire processing services include laser cutting, welding, flattening, grinding and coiling.
“We are appreciative that the state of Utah has chosen to invest in us as a homegrown company dedicated to improving the lives of patients and building long-term opportunities for our children and grandchildren,” said Fred P. Lampropoulos, Merit Medical Chairman and CEO, in a prepared statement. “We are hiring students from our state’s great institutions of higher education as engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, marketing and business professionals. We are committed to growing our business with local talent in all areas.”
In other news, Merit Medical also announced this month that it has completed the acquisition of Cianna Medical Inc. (Aliso Viejo, CA) in a merger transaction through which Cianna Medical is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Merit. Cianna Medical is a leader in wire-free breast localization and has been focused on breast conservation for 11 years.
