Thermoformed healthcare packaging company Nelipak (Cranston, RI) is introducing its newest tabletop heat sealer to the North American market at MD&M West in Anaheim, CA, this week.

Nelipak NX-T1 sealerThe NX-T1 made its debut late last year at Compamed, the suppliers showcase co-located with Medica in Düsseldorf, Germany, where it garnered a lot of attention, says Seán Egan, Group Marketing Manager. "The built-in RFID reader was especially popular," says Egan. "The tools are identified by the machine and it won't let the operator pick up the wrong recipe." The system locks up if the wrong tool and recipe combination is selected. The logging of seal force pressure during the sealing cycle, which is available as an option, also proved to be very popular.

Compatible with Class 7 and 8 cleanrooms, the sealer has a sleek, stainless-steel design. Because cleanroom space is a cost-intensive commodity, the NX-T1 has been engineered to take up as little room as possible. For example, the machine can sit against a wall, as the front-opening hood allows personnel to access the unit for maintenance.

Other features include:

  • a hands-free sealing drawer that automatically closes to begin the sealing cycle and returns to the open position upon completion;

  • automatic default of the drawer to the open position to prevent sealing dies from overheating, which may occur when the drawer is left under the heat plate when not in use;

  • an upgraded Siemens PLC HDMI controller that allows for functional add ons;

  • software upgrades that enable 21 CFR–compliant logging of inputs to produce an audit trail of pressure, time and temperature parameters.

Nelipak is showing the NX-T1 this week in booth 2086 at the MD&M West exhibition and conference, which runs through Feb. 12 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.
