Pexco acquires Precision Extrusion, broadens product portfolio for medical device OEMs

PexcoCertified to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485, Precision Extrusion was founded by Mike Badera in 1991. The company offers a variety of advanced extrusion technologies and products, from single lumen, multilumen and co-extrusion tubing to acetal mandrel solid rods and wire-reinforced parts. The company has developed expertise in processing engineering, high-performance medical plastics at tight tolerances. The company also sells angiographic and guide catheter products in standard French sizes. Badera will join Pexco and remain with the business in his current capacity as President and General Manager, and will also help direct Pexco's medical extrusion program, stated the press release announcing the acquisition on Dec. 8.

Pexco previously acquired Spectrum Plastics (Minneapolis, MN) in 2013, providing the company with a base in injection- and micro-molding technology for surgical devices and implantables, including bioresorbable materials. That same year, Pexco purchased Scandia Plastics (Plaistow, NH), a custom extruder serving the medical, filtration, environmental and defense markets, among others.

A portfolio company of Odyssey Investment Partners LLC, which acquired the business in August 2012, Pexco provides plastics extrusion, injection molding and machining as well as post-processing services to a range of markets, including the aerospace, defense and medical sectors. Industrial and consumer applications are also part of the product mix. The company operates eight ISO-certified cleanrooms and has nine facilities in the United States and two in Mexico.
