PTI Engineered Plastics announced this week that it has expanded its ISO Class 8 cleanroom, nearly tripling capacity.
The custom injection molder serving the medical, defense, aerospace, and consumer products sectors, now has a total of 8,000 square feet of cleanroom molding space. The pre-existing 2500-square-foot white space is certified to good manufacturing practices (GMP). Quality management systems are certified to the ISO 13485 standard for medical device manufacturing.
Twenty-four new injection molding presses dedicated to cleanroom operations have been installed, representing a three-fold increase in flexible production capacity, according to PTI.
Drying system upgrade
An existing Conair drying system has been expanded to ensure that all cleanroom presses have access to the latest industry 4.0 material handling and drying technology.
In addition to injection molding, the company provides assembly and packaging services along with ultrasonic welding, EMI shielding, pad printing, and laser marking. Thirty of the world’s leading medical device manufacturers are among its clients, claims PTI.
40 years in business
Earlier this year, PTI celebrated its 40th anniversary. The company was founded in 1984 in Macomb, MI, where it still is headquartered, by Mark Rathbone, initially producing functional prototype molds and injection molded samples primarily for the automotive industry. It evolved over the years into a sophisticated one-stop shop, designing and manufacturing complex plastic parts for the medical technology and other sectors. It is consistently ranked as one of the region's top work places by the Detroit Free Press.
