Materials supplier Velox GmbH (Hamburg, Germany) introduced Repsol, its new partner for pharmaceutical and medical applications, at the Fakuma trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, this week. Repsol is a leading producer of polyolefins celebrating more than 40 years in business. The partnership provides Velox’s healthcare customers with a measure of security in an evolving regulatory environment, explained Anne-Katherin Bartels, Product Manager, Medical Plastics, from the Velox booth at Fakuma.
“The new Medical Device Regulation requires medical device OEMs to exercise risk management,” Bartels told PlasticsToday. “If there is a disruption in materials supply from one of their sources, they need to have a second or third supplier on hand.” Regulations are getting stricter, she adds, although “this is just an assumption, really, since we have only started the implementation phase and no one knows yet what the full impact will be.”
Regardless, by integrating the full range of Repsol’s healthcare polyolefins into its product portfolio, Velox is offering added value to its customers who are seeking to diversify their sources, said the company. Beyond the materials, Velox also provides qualified technical, commercial and regulatory support.
The Repsol Healthcare brand offered by Velox includes polypropylene, polyethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate for applications ranging from inhalers, syringes and medical trays to blister packs, bottles, IV bags and tubing.
All of the products meet European and U.S. pharmacopeia requirements.
