Wittmann Battenfeld installs demo cleanroom at Torrington HQ

Demonstrates commitment to growing medical molding customer base

Wittmann Battenfeld Inc. reports that it has added a new demonstration cleanroom at its U.S. headquarters in Torrington, CT. The 672-square-foot facility will house two Wittmann Battenfeld molding machines: An all-electric EcoPower SE 110/350, which the company describes as a “special cleanroom edition,” and a MicroPower 15/10 micro-molding machine. Other Wittmann equipment including a W821 robot also will be installed.

The demo cleanroom will be operational in October.

“This new room will be used as a demonstration facility to show our medical customers molding applications and possibilities with our electric and micro-molding machines,” said Markus Klaus, IMM Division Manager. The cleanroom installation will be shown in operation for the first time at the company’s upcoming Innovations Workshop and Open House on October 5 and 6 in Torrington.

“Our involvement in medical molding applications is increasing, and the addition of this new facility shows our continued commitment to the market,” said company President David Preusse in a prepared statement.

The fully electric EcoPower and MicroPower machines do not have any hydraulic components, and any parts that have lubrication are completely contained. The MicroPower can be supplied with a module that converts it into its own self-contained cleanroom. It features a closing cover with a cleanroom filter and blower placed on its guarding. The filter provides clean air that meets ISO Class 6 (formerly Class 1,000) standards according to ISO 14644-1.

The cleanroom in the Torrington facility does not have a class certification since it is for demonstration purposes only. Wittmann Battenfeld does operate a fully functional ISO Class 6 cleanroom in Austria, where it has its global headquarters.

Christian Glueck, Technical Center Manager and Trainer, will lead molding operations for the new cleanroom demonstration facility. It will be in operation by October 1, 2016, said Wittmann Battenfeld.
