MIM making waves in German market

Frankfurt, Germany—Speaking at the Euromold exhibition in Frankfurt on Dec. 7, Thomas Hartkämper, GM of Husky Injection Molding’s operation in Germany, said the firm recently took “two major strategic orders” for two of its magnesium molding systems, marketed under the HyMET name. One of Germany’s leading material development centers, Neue Materialen Fürth (near Nuremberg), is working with Husky to develop new metal alloys for these systems, he added.

Husky has been conducting a road trip of sorts through Germany to introduce injection molded magnesium to a variety of processors and OEMs, said Hartkämper. He would not identify by name the two firms ordering HyMET systems, but said one is a major automotive OEM that has its own metal-stamping operations and considers magnesium molding a good opportunity to trim costs while also forming more complex parts.—[email protected]
