Nanmac gets green with solar panels

Article-Nanmac gets green with solar panels

On Sept. 5, a maker of thermocouples turned on its new solar array, which the company says will generate enough power to supply 60% of the energy needed for its U.S. HQ and manufacturing operations. The energy-conscious organization is Nanmac Corp. (Framingham, MA; www.nanmac.com), and it celebrated the switch-flipping at a ceremony with Governor Deval Patrick, State Sen. Karen Spilka, Local Representative Pam Richardson, and State Secretary of Energy Ian Bowles in attendance.

During the ceremony, Nanmac’s president Dan Nanigian spoke of the last five years in the history of the 50-year-old company as “the most difficult but most rewarding,” referring to challenges with material, labor, and energy costs contrasted with Nanmac’s 400% growth in exports.

The manufacturer of temperature sensors and related products says it will reduce both its energy bills and greenhouse gases through use of the solar panels.
