New technologies for real-world simulation

Article-New technologies for real-world simulation

In an effort to bring users closer to the properties of real-world conditions, Ansys has announced the release of Ansys 5.7 design simulation software. Traditionally, most input parameters, such as material properties, geometric extensions of a component, external loads, and boundary conditions, are subject to scatter and show variations from one component to another. The new Probabilistic Design System (PDS) in Ansys 5.7 allows input variations to be taken into account, and their effects on the analysis quantified.

The Parallel Performance feature introduces a scalable shared memory parallel solver and a distributed memory solver. The shared memory solver uses the Algebraic Multigrid (AMG) Solver while the distributed memory solver uses the Distributed Domain Solver (DDS). The Advanced Parallel Solvers allow fast calculation of complex simulations exceeding 10 million degrees of freedom.

Also included is a thermomechanical contact, reportedly allowing fast and accurate prediction of designs containing friction, heat sources, and other related factors. Detailed study of hyperelasticity, plasticity, and viscoplasticity-related designs are available with enhanced material models. Complementary to the new release is International TechneGroup Inc.?s repair software CADfix for Ansys, now available for versions 5.6.2 and 5.7.
