Nolato Medical will start molding LSR at its U.S. facility

Nolato Contour, formed when the Nolato Group acquired Contour Plastics in late July, 2010, is in the process of adding its third cleanroom, an ISO Class 7 space that will house new liquid silicone injection molding machines. At the time of the acquisition, the Baldwin facility had 9000m2 of floor space, of which 700m2 was cleanroom.

The new LSR capability is based on a technology transfer from Nolato Medical in Sweden, which has been molding liquid silicone for over 30 years, as well as molding thermoplastics, for complex implantable and non-implantable medical products. Nolato Group acquired Contour Plastics to gain a presence in the region between Chicago and Minneapolis, which it described then as "...one of four key American medical technology clusters."

Nolato Group says it has established a strong reputation for its ability to overmold silicone over thermoplastic components. The Nolato Group develops and manufactures polymer product systems for companies in medical technology, telecommunications, hygiene, automotive products and other industrial sectors. Group sales in 2010 stood at $500 million, and the average number of employees during the year was 7563.
