0801/pn-28The new IG710 on-line gage from NDC Infrared Engineering is said to allow converters to operate much closer to specification targets than before. The gage uses a new, proprietary detector technology to provide high-speed measurement of coating weight, film thickness and moisture on such structures as thin barrier layers and coextruded coatings.

The IG710 operates at a speed of 7.5 millisecond, which is said to be 10 times faster than conventional NIR (near infrared) gages. In turn, this speed allows more coat weight and moisture data to be collected from the moving web for improvements in machine- and cross-machine direction web profile resolution.

It is also said to reduce measurement noise, allowing processors tooperate closer to target.

The gage is reportedly easy to set up and use. It can be integrated into the company's Infragauge Pro system, for profile display, data acquisition, analysis and process control. Gages can also be used as stand-alone units with their own touchscreen operator interface or as part of an Ethernet or databus network in a factory-wide measurement and control system.
