Octal’s U.S. plant to begin production; company looks to open second plant in the West

Article-Octal’s U.S. plant to begin production; company looks to open second plant in the West

Octal's first manufacturing site in the U.S. is set to open in January 2015. The site is 130,720 sq-ft and is located in West Chester, OH, about 20 miles north of Cincinnati. Octal is one of the world's largest PET sheet producers and the largest PET resin producer in the Middle East. The company was formed in 2006, and recent expansion has tripled production from 350,000 metric tons per year to 1 million metric tons as the company's unique and patented DPET sheet usage continues to expand in the packaging industry.

sheet usage continues to expand in the packaging industry. This investment in North America will focus on converting post-industrial PET flake and resin into reusable rPET Sheet, which will serve the agricultural packaging sector.

During Pack Expo 2014 in Chicago, Octal COO Joe Barengerg told PlasticsToday that there is room for expansion at the Ohio facility. The plant will feature two extrusion lines and production will be 25,000 tons a year in the first phase with an additional 25,000 tons a year to be added within a year of startup. The first phase investment is more than $14 million

But one U.S. plant isn't enough and Barengerg said that the company is looking to open a second plant in the Western part of the U.S., with the idea that it would serve that area of the country and eventually export product to Mexico. He anticipates the company to make a decision on the location sometime in 2015.
