OPM marketing implantable PEKK grades in Europe

Article-OPM marketing implantable PEKK grades in Europe

PEKK-based biomaterials supplier OPM (Enfield, CT) and distributor Velox (Hamburg, Germany) have signed an agreement whereby Velox now will distribute OPM’s OXPEKK short- and long-term implant grades in Germany and Eastern Europe. The OXPEKK compounds are based on polyether ketone ketone (PEKK) and can see use in short- and long-term human implantable devices. Applications include spinal cages, cervical plates, and devices used in orthopedic and trauma surgeries.

OPM reports that OXPEKK is available as an amorphous grade for applications where flexibility is critical, as well as a crystalline form, and can be supplied in pellets for extrusion or injection molding and in extruded shapes for machining.

OPM was acquired in February 2009 by Arkema, the French plastics and chemicals major. Arkema already has used Velox to help distribute its carbon nanotubes and masterbatches containing these. [email protected]
