Owens Corning to introduce five new products at upcoming JEC Europe show

The new products are a reflection of Owens Corning's commitment to product leadership and customer collaboration, says the company. "The common thread through these new products is that they are inspired by our deep understanding of our customers' current and future needs, and deliver differentiated solutions to meet those requirements," said Arnaud Genis, Group President of Owens Corning's Composite Solutions Business.

The new product highlights at JEC Europe will include solutions for major processes such as pultrusion, DLFT PP1, lamination and thermoplastics compounding with applications in window lineals, automotive components, optical fiber cables (OFC) and panels. These new solutions, among the more than 20 new products that Owens Corning's Composite Solutions Business plans to launch in 2015, serve the automotive, industrial, and telecommunication markets.

One of the products to be launched at the show is the company's multi-compatible PulStrand 4100, a single end roving designed specifically for pultrusion, offering fast wetting and processing and laminate performance in major resin systems. Compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy and polyurethane resin systems, PulStrand 4100 roving reportedly offers enhanced processing qualities, high flexural strength (up to 57% greater than competitive offerings) and ultimate shear strength (up to 70% higher than competitive products). It has the potential to enable faster line speeds while reducing downtime, scrap and labor, and enhances the modulus and durability of pultruded profiles for a variety of high-performance markets.

In addition, Owns Corning is showcasing its OC Paneluxe multi-end roving, which, says the company, is formulated for use with polyester and vinyl-ester resins in a wide range of applications. It allows for more homogeneous mats, better fiber repartition, and reduced glass change-overs in addition to enhanced productivity through optimized wet-out and low fuzz generation. Also new is the company's "product of choice" for hydrolysis resistance (HR) performance and impact modified polyamides (PA): the HydroStrand 258 chopped strands, which feature dry-as-molded properties in a wide range of PA formulations, as well as outstanding performance in glycol-resistant PA 66 formulations.

The newest member of the Performax family, also to be launched at JEC Europe, is Performax SE4850, a roving for polypropylene DLFT exhibiting reduced fuzz generation, improved glass dispersion and increased strand splice tensile strength. In addition, SE4850's adhesion to polypropylene can improve composite mechanical properties by up to 80%, particularly in impact strength.

The fifth new product, TeleStrand 2000 UV, enables high-speed processing, thanks to tight loss on ignition, minimized fuzz (0.002 gm/lb of product) and fast impregnation. Waste and downtime are minimized through the elimination of the need for splicing as a result of the glass-fiber length matching cable length.

Owens Corning is exhibiting in Hall 7-2, Booth F22.
