Increased output and a variety of multilayer structures were the impetus behind the addition of a multilayer Windmoeller & Hoelscher (W&H) blown-film extrusion system at Auburn, WA, facility. The line produces packaging for the fresh and frozen food markets as well as quality sealant webs to the converter industry. W&H and Ampac also upgraded an existing extrusion system installed in 2004. Ampac believes the new line’s efficiency, including short start-up and changeover times, will result in reduced material waste, higher productivity, and greater sustainability.

The company has also installed a Totani Model BH-80HVLLLS-M system at its Elk Grove Village, IL plant to increase the output of flexible pouches, including standard 3-side seal, stand-up, and retort. The company says the high-speed equipment can operate at up to 240 cycles/min, with laminate roll changes on the fly. The equipment includes Totani’s ‘Heat Pipe’ technology to provide high quality sealing, stable cooling, and automatic-adjustment functions. Ampac operates 14 manufacturing centers in North America, Europe, and Asia with 1300 people employees and annual revenues exceeding $300 million.
