Packaging: IPACK-IMA announces ’09 plans

Chicago—Billing the event as a chance for American packaging and packaging equipment suppliers to expand upon segment exports that were already up 10.2% through the first eight months of 2008 after expanding by more than 14% last year, IPACK-IMA officials promoted their triennial event next year (March 24-28; Milan) to Pack Expo attendees. “In my opinion, any US company that is not active in Europe should rethink their strategy,” explained Guido Corbella, IPACK-IMA CEO.

Corbella said that the event has already signed up 1000 exhibitors, and of those, 20% are new and 25% come from outside Italy. Fully 80% of the show space is already locked up for the event, which collocates with Plast, Grafitalia, and Converflex for a “mega” show promising 150,000 visitors and 4000 exhibitors at Milan’s new fairgrounds. New to the event this year is a forum to address world hunger, with collaboration from the United Nations, the World Food Program, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. “Developing countries need to do more than learn how to grow food,” Corbella said. “This is the first step and a fresh approach to deal with a serious problem.”

IPACK-IMA is collocated with Plast ’09.
