Poland Spring brand 100% Natural Spring Water, along with its five regional spring water sister brands, announced today a new national campaign. Made for a Better Tomorrow highlights the six brands’ efforts to create new bottles from existing materials. It also establishes a new One-for-One Promise that commits to donating bottled water to communities in need for every pledge made to recycle.

This initiative follows two previous announcements. On March 15, 2021, Triton Water Holdings revealed that it would acquire certain assets and all of the equity interests of some Nestlé Waters North America entities in the United States and Canada. On April 6, the company formerly known as Nestlé Waters North America began operating under a new corporate name, BlueTriton Brands, which followed the completion of the acquisition.

The campaign announced today (May 11) coincides with Ice Mountain Brand 100% Natural Spring Water’s launch of better bottles, which have long been 100% recyclable and are now also made with 100% recycled plastic (rPET). All six regionally distributed spring water brands now offer these bottles. This effort not only contributes to a circular economy, where bottles are made with other bottles, but also can help keep plastic out of landfills, oceans, and waterways, said the company.

With the new One-for-One Promise, for every person who pledges to recycle their bottle during the campaign, the regional spring water brands will donate a bottle of water back to that region. The brands are working with Feeding America and local organizations to reach communities that have been hard hit by COVID-19, are recovering from storms, or are facing longer-term water-access issues.

The more people who pledge to recycle, the more water will be donated across all six brands, with a total minimum donation of nearly 200,000 and a maximum donation of nearly 3,000,000 half-liter bottles of water. The campaign ends on Oct. 14, 2021.

“Now more than ever, people want to make a difference and are looking to connect with brands with purpose,” said Yumi Clevenger-Lee, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, BlueTriton Brands. “Low recycling rates across the country and access to clean drinking water in some communities are two prevalent issues and our new campaign invites people to join us and help make a meaningful impact on both our planet and on the health of fellow Americans. This is an example of how we are bringing to life our passion to be a force for good and a force for growth.”

Last September, Poland Spring announced a collaboration with the University of Maine and its Forest Bioproducts Research Institute to evaluate and develop bio-based solutions that could serve as alternative packaging for Poland Spring products. PlasticsToday asked Poland Spring if this collaboration was ongoing given the changes at the company, and the company confirmed that the collaboration is still active. “Poland Spring is collaborating with the University of Maine to explore bio-based packaging solutions, which could potentially use new materials derived from sustainably harvested Maine wood as an alternative to plastic,” said a company spokesperson.
