At plastics and chemicals supplier Dow Chemical Company, Glenn Wright, commercial vice president for North America Plastics, has been named business vice president for Performance Packaging, an $8 billion global business unit in the company's Performance Plastics division. Also at Dow, Mauro Gregorio, commercial vice president of plastics in Europe/Middle East/Africa, has been named to the dual role of commercial vice president for Performance Plastics North America, and business vice president for Performance Plastics' Hygiene & Medical global business unit.

At plastics and chemicals supplier Dow Chemical Company, Glenn Wright, commercial vice president for North America Plastics, has been named business vice president for Performance Packaging, an $8 billion global business unit in the company's Performance Plastics division.
Also at Dow, Mauro Gregorio, commercial vice president of plastics in Europe/Middle East/Africa, has been named to the dual role of commercial vice president for Performance Plastics North America, and business vice president for Performance Plastics' Hygiene & Medical global business unit.
The newly formed Performance Plastics division now includes all of Dow's plastics operations. The supplier says the organizational change represents a shift to a market/value chain orientation.
Rigid plastics packaging processor TricorBraun, one of North America's largest suppliers of bottles, jars and other rigid packaging, has named Jad Darsey as its director of sustainability and plastics. He will evaluate new packaging technology and assist TricorBraun's customers with material choices and package designs that will enable them to improve their sustainability programs.
Darsey joined TricorBraun in 2008 and was responsible for developing strategic and emerging markets. The processor has more than 40 locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Asia, with its packaging primarily supplied to customers in the personal care, cosmetics, healthcare, food and beverages industries.
Meanwhile, an international call for entries for the German Packaging Award has been made. The award has been made annually since 1964. The competition is open to national and international participants from the packaging and consumer goods industry. Deadline for submissions is September 1,2011.
The German Packaging Award is awarded by an independent jury in seven categories: Sales Packaging / Transport Packaging / Design, Presentation and Decoration / Display and Promotional Packaging / Prototypes / Machine Technology / Young Talent Award.
Participants are designers, developers, manufacturers and end users of packaging materials and packaging. Winners of the German Packaging Award also qualify for the WorldStar competition held by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO). The Award is organized by the German Packaging Institute (dvi).
In 2011 there is an additional tender for a special young talent award. The tender is open to students and trainees and calls for designs for non-alcoholic drinks. The submission is free. The winners qualify for the "Student World Star".
