Plastipak Packaging Inc. (Plymouth, MI) announced that it will make a $15 million capital investment to expand production capacity at its 862,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Pineville, LA. Plastipak is a producer of rigid plastic containers for the food, beverage and consumer products industries; plans call for the addition of up to seven production lines to increase capabilities at the site.
The expansion, which is expected to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter, will create 10 new direct jobs, paying an average of $40,000 per year, plus benefits, according to a release from the Louisiana Economic Development office. In addition, the company will retain 263 existing jobs at its Pineville facility. This is the second major expansion to the plant since 2015, when the company announced a $9 million investment for the addition of three new production lines.
“Plastipak’s new investment in Pineville is a testament to the economic climate and highly skilled workforce here in Louisiana,” commented Gov. John Bel Edwards.
Plastipak CEO William C. Young said, “Plastipak is extremely appreciative of the continued support it has received from Governor Edwards, Louisiana Economic Development, Mayor Clarence R. Fields, the local community and many other local organizations. Plastipak continues to be impressed with the business-friendly environment in central Louisiana and the state of Louisiana.”
Plastipak’s growth has been fueled by innovative technologies such as ThermoShape, EPET, DiamondClear, Direct Object Printing and Aerosol, which offer a range of packaging solutions for major brands around the world. In addition, the company displays its commitment to sustainability as one of the largest global producers of recycled PET materials. Operating four recycling centers around the world, Plastipak has substantial recycling capacity to reduce its carbon footprint and offer sustainable packaging to its valued customers, said the company.
Founded in 1967, Plastipak Packaging Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Plastipak Holdings Inc., a global company specializing in the design and manufacture of high-quality, rigid plastic containers. In May the company celebrated its golden anniversary with a celebration for company associates, families, customers and others at the Cobo Center in Detroit. In conjunction with its 50th anniversary, the company announced the opening of its new Global Capability Center in Plymouth, which will allow customers to visualize proprietary technologies and benefit from focused demonstrations of products and processes.
“With us it’s all about driving home the sense of purpose, and our purpose is delivering great products and service to our customers,” said Young.
