Polyfuze Graphics has introduced a technology that “fuses” permanent labels into the plastic during the extrusion process, eliminating the risk of peeling or detachment. The innovation offers manufacturers a more efficient, durable, and sustainable approach to product labeling, minimizing production downtime and reducing waste, the company said.

Unlike traditional methods that rely on adhesive-backed labels or surface printing, Polymer Fusion labels become an inseparable part of the material itself — ensuring durability and engineered resistance to fading, wear, chemicals, UV exposure, and extreme temperatures.

“What makes this new product offering different is continuous printing — it’s a continuous band of Polymer Fusion, which is a game changer for extrusion lines,” said Director of Engineering Jason Brownell. The technology from Polyfuze streamlines production since the label is applied during extrusion, forgoing any surface treatment before or after the process, and it supports sustainability efforts by being fully recyclable, he added.

Brownell noted that the technology is compatible with a range of materials in the polyolefin family. "This includes polyethylene (PE) such as linear-low-density and high-density PE, and polypropylene (PP), even glass- and talc-filled PP. It can also be used with olefinic thermoplastic elastomers, such as TPE, TPO, and TPV, as they fall within the same polymer family,” Brownell told PlasticsToday.

Polymer Fusion accommodates custom designs and multiple colors, including logos, safety warnings, and decorative patterns. The technique is suitable for applications in the packaging, automotive, and consumer goods sectors.
