Netherlands-based biosuccinic acid producer Reverdia announced on Tuesday that it has signed a strategic partnership with Hangzhou Xinfu Science & Technology Co., Ltd. in China. The two companies have agreed to collaborate on the use of biosuccinic acid in biopolymers developed for the packaging industry. Specifically, Xinfu will adopt Reverdia’s biosuccinic acid, which the company markets under the brand name Biosuccinium®, in bio-based polymers and co-polymers for the packaging industry; also, the partnership includes a long-term supply agreement.
Succinic acid is a chemical used directly in a variety of industry applications, such as pharmaceuticals, food and automotive and also as an intermediate for the production of several polymers and resins. Conventional succinic acid is produced from crude oil and natural gas. Reverdia has developed proprietary fermentation technology at industrial scale which yields high quality, bio-based succinic acid.
Xinfu is a global pioneer in fully biodegradable resins and films with in-house R&D from manufacturing to business development. The company is committed to building a strong portfolio around its new generation of bio-based plastics.

Under the terms of the present agreement with Reverdia, Xinfu will exclusively use Biosuccinium for producing bio-based polymers, derivatives and new cutting-edge biomaterials for packaging applications such as (compostable) single-use bags. It possesses leading and builds a strong portfolio on its new generation of bio-based plastics.
