TC Transcontinental Packaging, which supplies flexible packaging for pet food and other consumer products, has been recognized by the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) for its sustainability performance.

PSC named the company a Top Performer for 2022/2023 in the Earth Defender category of the PSC environmental awards program.

TC Transcontinental Packaging was among the top 10 scoring PSC-accredited companies in the Earth Defender Category. It gained PSC accreditation earlier this year after a third-party validation of its environmental and social impact.

Competitors’ Earth Defender scores were based on environmental issues comprising:

  • Clean water and sanitation.

  • Affordable and clean energy.

  • Industry, innovation, and infrastructure.

  • Sustainable cities and communities.

  • Responsible consumption and production.

  • Climate action.

  • Life below water.

  • Life on land.

“We are honored to be recognized for our sustainability initiatives,” says Thomas Morin, president of TC Transcontinental Packaging. “By demonstrating leadership in sustainable packaging, we provide our customers with a road map to lessen their environmental footprint and create long-term value for stakeholders.”

TC Transcontinental Packaging’s environmentally friendly solutions for pet food include its VieVERTe products, which offer the benefits of conventional flexible food packaging — barrier, strength, performance, shelf stability, and shelf appeal — plus recyclability.

The products are made from monomaterial polyethylene (PE) and are available in rollstock or as finished bags and pouches. The packaging is pre-approved for How2Recycle certification in the in-store drop-off category. Post-consumer recycled (PCR) content can be incorporated in the products.

TC Transcontinental Packaging’s goal is to make 100% of its plastic packaging reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.

“We are committed to building a sustainable future, and our ambitious targets are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to address climate change and to reduce environmental impacts,” says Magali Depras, TC Transcontinental’s chief strategy and corporate social responsibility officer.

The PSC recognition “encourages us to continue to contribute to the ecological transition that is already underway,” Depras adds.

TC Transcontinental Packaging specializes in recycling, extrusion, lamination, printing, and converting and serves a variety of consumer, industrial, agricultural, and medical markets. It has operations in the US, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, the UK, and New Zealand.
