UL certifies energy-saving claims of Milliken’s Hyperform HPN PP additives

UL Environment & Sustainability, a unit of the global UL group, confirmed recently that it has certified that four grades of Milliken Chemical’s Hyperform HPN produced an average of 5 to 8% energy savings for firms that injection mold thin-wall container lids or similar polypropylene (PP) products. The certification applies to the Asia region, but can be extended to global recognition.

Milliken Chemical has long maintained that its Hyperform HPN performance additives offer significant energy savings to injection molders during processing, a claim that now has been independently verified by UL.

“We do have plans to pursue UL certification for additional nucleators in various applications, including other processes such as thermoforming,” said Bhavesh Gandhi, Milliken Global Product Line Manager—Hyperform.

This is just the latest step in Milliken’s ongoing mission to help customers reduce their impact on the environment, the company explained. Its Millad NX 8000 clarifier for polypropylene was the first Milliken product to gain energy savings–related certification from UL. Most recently, Milliken announced that its Millad NX 8000 has received Critical Guidance Recognition from the Association of Plastic Recyclers. The recognition validates that the Millad NX 8000 clarifier is compatible with plastic packaging recycling. It reportedly is the only PP clarifying agent to receive this recognition from APR.

“We consider APR’s Critical Guidance Recognition to be the gold standard for recycling compatibility,” said Allen Jacoby, Senior Vice President, Plastics Additives. “Millad NX 8000 is a state-of-the-art clarifier that supports our customers’ sustainability efforts. Its environmental advantages are helping to drive strong global demand. As a result, Milliken is investing in a new, world-class manufacturing plant that will boost clarifier capacity by 50%,” added Jacoby.
