Styrolution presents clear choice for medical applications
Styrolution (Frankfurt, Germany), the global leader in styrenic materials, showcased what it calls the disruptive nature of transparent styrenic specialties at Fakuma. A number of medical applications, including a virtual needle technology made from Zylar that offers real-time needle tracking from Soma Access Systems and multilumen tubing from Microspec, in which PVC was replaced with styrene butadiene block copolymers Styroflex and Styrolux, were among the featured products.
The company also reiterated that it had successfully started production of its styrene acrylic copolymer NAS at its Decatur, AL, plant and opened a new NAS and Zylar plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, this month.
Production of ABS, branded under the Novodur name, is mostly used for inhalers, said Marcela Villegas, Director, Product Management Transparent Specialties, Styrenic Specialties, EMEA. "We provide segregated production, regulatory documentation, and a three-year supply chain guarantee," she told PlasticsToday. That has brought the company market success: "Every second someone is using an inhaler made with materials from Styrolution," said Villegas.
