Though Wexco may be best known for its bimetallic plasticating cylinders, its new patented invention is designed for customers who wish to process noncorrosive polymers in tool steel cylinders. The new cylinder consists of a backing steel tube and a one-piece hardened tool steel liner that protects the cylinder bore. This design eliminates potential gaps between short tool steel segments used in abutted multipiece steel segments. Such gaps could retain traces of resin that may cause streaking in color changes. The one-piece liner shrunk into the cylinder tube is also said to eliminate any possibility of short liner segments rotating or moving as a result of forces generated by the screw pushing plastic through the cylinder.?KH
