Plastics compounds: Teknor Apex goes global with rigid vinyl compounds

The supplier of custom and standard compounds has long offered ones for flexible vinyl applications in the U.S. and rigid ones through its Teknor Apex Asia Pacific subsidiary. During the Plast-Ex show in Toronto, Canada, June 21-23, the company will formally announce the availability of a new range of rigid PVC compounds to processors globally.

Some of the potential applications for the rigid PVC compounds now available from Teknor Apex: valves and irrigation connectors; electrical junction boxes; cove base profiles for interior walls; medical tubing connectors.

This new range of Apex rigid vinyl compounds will include more than 30 standard compound formulations as ell as the ability to supply custom PVC compounds, according to Michael Renzi, business development manager for the company. The standard compounds will be available for processors of a variety of application.

Apex is the established brand name of Teknor Apex's flexible vinyl compounds in the U.S., where it has offered flexible PVC compounds since 1946. Teknor Apex Asia Pacific, the former Singapore Polymer Corp., was founded in 1969 and acquired by Teknor Apex in 2001.  

The Apex rigid PVC compounds are available in natural, clear, and a wide range of custom color formulations. Standard grades will be offered for profile and sheet extrusion, for interior and exterior applications. Also offered will be injection molding compounds, and formulations for injection and extrusion blowmolding.

Formulations available include filled, flame retardant, low-smoke plenum, medical- and food-grade, gamma-stable, potable water, high gloss, matte finish, and a variety of standard, medium, and high impact grades. The rigid vinyl compounds are produced in the U.S. at facilities in Rhode Island, Tennessee, and California, and at the Singapore facility of Teknor Apex Asia Pacific.
