The European Thermoforming Division (ETD) of the Society of Plastics Engineers is asking thermoformers to participate in the 2nd European Thermoforming Parts Competition. The judging criteria will be originality, creativity, thermoforming tool complexity and technical ability.
All entries must be submitted in time for exhibition and judging at the 6th European Thermoforming Conference, scheduled for 3-5 April 2008 at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin, Germany. More information on the conference and the competition can be found at the ETD website, www.e-t-d.org. Winners at the inaugural 2006 competition (the conference is held every two years) were, in the thin gauge category, the first micro-scale thermoformed part, a single-use fluidic microchip for the medical or life sciences industry, brought to the competition by the Institute for Microstructure Technology at the Karlsruhe Research Center (German acronym FZK for Forschunszentrum Karslruhe); and in the heavy gauge category the winner was Jacob Kunststofftechnik (Wilhelmsdorf, Germany), one of the better-known technical parts thermoformers in the world, for its development and processing of a twin sheet polypropylene thermoformed system for transport of cam lubes.
