A new barrier screw design incorporates a new type of melting mechanism in the barrier section that allows for high production rates and improved pressure stability. It also has removable dams that allow the screw to be optimized for use with different resins. This new design can be used in either extrusion or injection molding applications. It is reportedly virtually impossible to copy. The manufacturer also reports that it is testing a general-purpose screw design that can effectively run a wide variety of resins.
