Rounding out its line of temperature controllers, Wittmann has introduced the CoolPro portable chiller, which uses water and air for cooling and is available in sizes from 1 to 20 tons. All units feature a powder-coated steel cabinet with stainless and galvanized steel shelves and support brackets. Electrical and safety components are behind a key-locked door, and gauges and indicator lights are mounted to the door by the PID digital temperature control.
Copeland scroll compressors are found in models from 1.5 through 20 tons, and an automatic hot-gas bypass maintains a consistent level of cooling, despite variations in load demand. Compressor life is extended since the circuit doesn't turn it on and off.
Safety features include freeze protection in the form of a flow switch or a freeze stat control. High- and low-pressure safeties guard the refrigerant circuit, and in case of overload conditions, a back-pressure safety relief protects the compressor from high-temperature return water. An additional safety circuit disallows improper wiring, and there's also a safety to protect the pump seals in case the system is activated without water in the reservoir. All plumbing is nonferrous, and a polymer tank for the reservoir provides longer life. Prices range from $4000 to just over $21,000. Wittmann USA, Torrington, CT; 860-496-9603; www.wittmann-ct.com
