CMD to present a new bag machine and winding system

At K 2013, rotary bagmaking machinery manufacturer CMD will launch a new bag machine and winding system.

The company says that the CMD 864 global bag machine and winder offers continuous-motion sealing and provides converters with technology that is simple to operate, has low maintenance requirements and quick changeover. Visitors to Hall 3 stand G05 can inspect bags-on-a-roll samples and discuss the system with technical experts and international agents.

The system utilizes CMD continuous-motion technology, which the company said provides a wider processing window than traditional, intermittent-motion or shuttle-style bag machines. CMD rotary sealing allows for converters to adjust the dwell, or amount of time the heated seal bar is in contact with the film. This technology takes on sealing challenges, converting at up to 450 ft/min(138 m/min) bags made from bio-resins, post-consumer recycled content, or down-gauged films.

The bag machine and winding system features a unique seal-drum design that allows for fast, simple changeover from job to job. The adjustable seal drum gives converters the flexibility to run a variety of product sizes. The system produces perforation-connected bags on coreless rolls. CMB states that compared with folded bags, bags-on-a-roll are more efficient to produce, stock, ship and store.

The company touts that the straightforward design of the system results in a compact, space-saving footprint that takes less fuel to ship, less energy to run and utilizes fewer materials to build. The bags-on-a-roll product is also more energy-efficient to produce, ship and store than folded bags, which hold air between the folds and make less efficient use of shipping and shelf space.

Drawtape bagmaking system

Worldwide demand is on the rise for consumer-friendly drawtape-style trash bags, and CMD will exhibit technology on the patented model 1270GDS global drawtape bagmaking system. The new science offered by CMD provides converters with process management tools designed to enhance productivity and profitability.

The converting process is enhanced by production speeds up to 183 m/ min (600 ft/min); a compact, space-saving footprint that is simple to thread up and operate; and optional print-to-seal registration for making printed bags.

The global drawtape system can be configured with the model 0330HSW global high speed winder. The system will produce drawstring style bags on “overlapped” rolls with one-at-a-time dispensing, banded for retail merchandising. High cycle rates allow for production of small-count rolls at top production speeds of 183 m/min. Designed to be simple to operate and maintain, the winder has easy maintenance access from five sides.

Robotic packaging automation will complete the drawtape bag converting line at the CMD booth. The packaging automation system is designed by CMD and integrates a Yamaha model YK600X SCARA robot with a PHD single-roll gripper assembly capable of handling over 1650 rolls per hour.
