Booth S-1714

What's Hot! Cumberland will have a range of new size-reduction products on display, including what it says may be the largest commercially available granulator at NPE, Model 3263.

Typical applications for this 3200 Series of granulators are heavy extruder purgings, blow mold flashings, sheet, pipe, large blow molded parts (automotive, appliance, furniture, profiles), X-ray films, packaging films and large-capacity post-consumer products. Three models are available: 32 x 42 in., 32 x 63 in. and 32 x 84 in. The Model 3263, to be displayed at NPE, measures approximately 13-1/2 ft wide, 8 ft deep and 15 ft high.

Features and benefits cited for the 3200 Series include:

* A conveyor infeed that measures 32 x 63 in. for a variety of product and high-volume applications

* A 12-knife open rotor for improved throughput and part acceptance. (Optional rotors include a 30-knife staggered 'hog' for heavy purgings and a multi-knife Twin High Shear rotor, ideal for bulk film applications.)

* Integral rotor knife seats that are replaceable

* A 36-in. cutting circle for extra large parts and 20% greater screen wrap than most conventional designs for higher throughput capacity

* A hydraulic tilt mechanism for the infeed hopper to provide access to the cutting chamber and rotor for simplified maintenance

* A drop-down screen cradle, also with hydraulic tilt, to provide quick screen access

* Discharge transition chutes that roll out on tracks beneath the cradle for simple access and cleaning. Twin pipe discharge is said to create high velocity material evacuation and efficient airflow, critical for high capacity applications.

* Outboard-mounted integral bearing housings and heavy-duty double row spherical roller bearings that support maximum load-carrying capacity for the heaviest applications.

* Bearings are also close-fit, taper-mounted and adjustable for setting close radial clearances, critical for high capacity film applications.

* High-inertia rotor and rotor-drive system create 'unmatched' torque and driving force at the knife tip for unstoppable cutting action.

* An automated grease delivery system that takes the worry out of scheduled lubrication of bearings.

* Standard units include a 200 hp, TEFC energy-efficient motor. Motors up to 400 hp are optional.

* Safety interlock switches protect the operator and provide a safe environment for operation.

Other news: A new three-knife open-scooped rotor option for Model 7x12 is said to provide positive ingestion of bulkier parts, thin gage materials, heat-sensitive materials and film scraps.

Standard features include:

* Integrated rotating end discs for low-heat granulation and reduced frictional wear

* Standard rotor speeds of approximately 250 rpm

* A 3 hp, 1800 rpm TEFC motor, with optional 5 hp motor (Model 7x15 only) for heavier parts and higher throughput requirements

* Two-position tray extension to simplify custom feeding of sprues, runners and small parts. The infeed can be configured to suit the application. A front-feed position for direct hand feeding is optional.

* Bolted and doweled construction is said to ensure strength and durability

* Integral out-board bearings are sealed for life for minimal maintenance.

The Model 7x15 Auto is the same as the 700 Series unit mentioned above, but with a standard multi-knife, helical-scooped rotor and low-speed operation for minimal dust and fines. The 'Auto' Series configuration creates a versatile system that includes a large-capacity discharge bin, dual level sensors for precise control and improved ergonomic height for operation and maintenance.

Model 10x18 beside-the-press granulator is a compact, easily movable, soundproofed unit engineered for hand-, robot- or conveyor fed applications. It has a 3-knife open-scooped rotor and a 5 hp, 1800 rpm, TEFC motor. Ten and 15 hp motors are optional. Other features are the same as the Model 7x12.

A 5-knife open-scooped rotor option will be introduced for Model 1628. This option is designed for high-capacity film and fiber processing. The open rotor improves airflow for cool operation and efficient cutting. Unit also features a soundproofed tray-feed hopper with top vent and hinged tray.

Other features include a drop-down removable screen cradle for easy cleaning, sound-attenuated chamber and drive system for approximately 85 dbA operation for most applications and NEMA 12 electrical enclosure.

A rear-mounted infeed feed-roll system for film edge-trim applications will be introduced for Model 1828I. Unit also has a new, motorized hopper tilt mechanism option. An electric screw-jack hopper tilt allows for easy access. A three-knife open rotor allows for improved airflow and cooler processing of heat-sensitive materials.

Unit also features the integral outboard-mounted double-row spherical roller bearings, sound attenuated hopper and chamber for quiet operation and a NEMA 12 electrical enclosure.

Finally, Cumberland will introduce new features for its Model 900/8 Accrapak Strand Pelletizer. These include an overhung rotor design that allows easy cleaning and color changes, efficient processing of color masterbatches, gear drive for roll feeding, the ability to vary pellet length via a simple gear change and safety interlocks.

Cool Booth Details The Cumberland iCD will be put through its paces in both an interactive kiosk and on a large, over-head monitor for easy viewing. Packed with videos, drawings, spec sheets, photos and links to the Internet, the Cumberland iCD will take you on a complete tour of products and services. Free copies will be available. Circle 242
