The venture will include a precompounding plant to be constructed in Shanghai that's expected to be operational in the second half of 2011, pending government approval. DuPont said the arrangement will combine its fluoroelastomer technology, including the Viton brand with Chenguang's integrated manufacturing and strong China presence.
ChemChina is a state-owned enterprise established in May 2004, its subsidiary Chenguang describes itself as a leading technology and equipment supplier for fluoroelastomer gum production in China.
In a June 2010 report, SRI Consulting forecast that total demand for fluoroelastomers is forecast to grow at an average annual rate of 5-6% through 2014, driven by economic economic recovery, further tightening of emission standards, and a strong expansion of automobile production in China. In addition to DuPont, the major fluoroelastomer suppliers globally include Dyneon, Solvay Solexis, and Daikin.
