GF Machining Solutions touts milling machine's flexibility

As an all-in-one production system designed with today's moldmakers in mind, the new Mikron HSM MoldMaster (MM) high-speed milling machine gives shops the versatility to produce a range of mold and die-related components. From 58Rc steel mold cores to hot pressing dies and even sinker-EDM electrodes for intricate mold cavities, the HSM 500 MoldMaster does it all, said GF Machining Solutions.

Special features of the HSM 500 MoldMaster include a 42,000-rpm HSK spindle with ceramic hybrid ball bearings that require minimal oil-air lubrication, as well as liquid-cooled stator jacket and bearings. The vector-controlled motor spindle ensures extremely fast acceleration as well as high torque at low speeds. Feed rates up to 784.4 ipm (20 m/min) and rapid traverses as fast as 1574.8 ipm (42 m/min) are possible.

The portal's pyramid-shaped design delivers stability and rigidity yet allows for a compact machine footprint. The GF-HSM-500-MoldMaster-367.jpgcomes equipped with graphite extraction system, touch probe capability, and absolute optical linear scales with 20-nanometer step resolutions on its x, y, and z axes for extremely precise machine positioning, said GF Machining Solutions.

The HSM MoldMaster also includes standard SmartMachine controls that increase tool life through vibration monitoring, boost productivity by reducing machine warm-up wait time, and shorten cycle times with optimized machine motion.

The unit also comes with the Advanced Process System, Intelligent Thermal Control, and Operator Support System.
