Gneuss has debuted a low-cost rotary melt filtration system that, albeit without an automatic self-cleaning system, enables fully automatic operation with pressure and process consistency in most applications. Market research by Gneuss found that 80% of melt filters in commercial use actually operate without self-cleaning, thus prompting Gneuss to develop the SFXmagnus, which is based on the RSFgenius system that incorporates self-cleaning, but priced 45% to 50% less. In typical operation, the SFXmagnus might run for one to three weeks before filter change is required, and this can be accomplished in about 8 to 10 minutes.

The SFXmagnus is available with filter capacity of up to 10,000 sq cm with filtration as fine as 3 µm, system pressures of up to 800 bar, and melt temperatures of up to 350ºC. Prior to K, Gneuss received orders for 10 SFXmagnus melt filters.

Gneuss has also improved the performance of its RSFgenius melt filter to increase the active filter area by 30% to 40%, while changes in the design of filter elements enable up to 400 cleaning cycles-30% more than before. The new elements also enable filtration as fine as 1 µm. Gneuss Kunststofftechnik GmbH, Bad Oeynhausen, Germany; +49 57 31 53070; www.gneuss.com
